FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

NEWBORNS:

When should I book the session?

I book sessions SEVERAL months in advance, especially newborns!!

If I told you that after you have a positive pregnancy test you should contact me, would you think I'm crazy??

Try to inquire and book as soon as you can, I can keep the best kept secret...

As far as other sessions, the sooner, the better. Weekend availability is limited and books up very quickly, so getting on the calendar ASAP is your best bet! I'm usually booked up 3-4 months in advance, but do take last minute bookings depending on availability.

How do I book a definitive session date?

Because of newborns unpredictability, I simply write down your due date in my calendar,

and reserve you a spot for after you give birth.

I ask that clients put me on their birth list so they remember to give me a text as soon as possible after the baby is born (email/facebook is fine too!). Some parents will even message me as they are going into labor or heading for the hospital. This allows me to do any schedule juggling that might be necessary to be sure that your session will take place within the first two weeks.

I am flexible, therefore I hope you are too.

For the mom’s with scheduled inductions and c-sections, a date can be booked ahead of time.

When do you photograph my newborn?

I prefer to capture newborns between 6 and 10 days old. This gives us the best chance to get those squishy, sweet, sleepy, curly shots that make you say "AWWWWW." Older than this, they tend to not “curl” as much and sleep less. Also, newborn acne and colic can usually flair by the 2-3 week mark, it is to my and your advantage to photograph them as soon as possible.

If you happen to miss this time, please DO NOT shy away. I will still work with you and take your newborn if they are past 14 days, I do  not discriminate. As long as a day in my schedule is open, I will accept the challenge, but I can NEVER guarentee!

Do you come to my home?

I do offer travel, but for a fee depending on where you live and how far you book in advance

My brand new CUSTOM BUILT studio is located in Rockville Centre, NY. There are so many benefits of an in-studio session including the best light, a relaxing perfect clean atmosphere (where you don't have to clean!), exclusive use of all my props and the best setting for your baby to get the MOST pictures.

How long does a session last?

The average session is 2-3 hours… Some are shorter, some are longer, it is really up to the baby.

I am a perfectionst, so I work as long as it takes, going by the baby’s schedule to take feeding breaks etc.

Newborn sessions are very unpredictable. The session could last anywhere from an hour and a half to up to four hours. Please plan accordingly.

NO DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS THE DAY OF.

NO SHOTS THE DAYS PRIOR TO THE SESSION.

What do I need for the session?

All you need is the baby and anyone or anything else special you want in the photos. I have more props than you will know what to do with! When you book, you can search a list of vendors that I use if you would like to buy anything unique for your session that I may not have or for a keepsake!

NEWBORNS:  EXTRA DIAPERS, CHANGING EQUIPMENT, EXTRA BOTTLES, PACIFIER (IMPORTANT), WARM BLANKET

CHILD/FAMILY: NON-MESSY SNACKS FOR KIDS, CLEAR JUICE/WATER, FAVORITE TOY, BRIBERY :)

How much room do you need to setup?

If I travel to you, generally I need a 8' x 8' space. I come with a backdrop stand that extends that length,

along with multiple props and a large beanbag.

As long as you provide some open space near a window that gets good light, you can leave the rest to me.

If you know what time of day your home gets the best light, that is when we should schedule.

The best light is not DIRECT light.

Once I arrive, we will look around your home together and decide where the session will take place. Occasionally we may move furniture to make room but I have worked in apartments and condos with limited space and we can always make it work.

Do I have to be in photos?

I know you just gave birth and are not feeling your most beautiful, but the answer is no you dont HAVE TO, but you should consider it. I can work wonders with retouching dark circles from the sleepless nights and I know how to camouflage the problem areas that remain.

You cannot get this time back, and later you will be thankful to have photos of yourself with your new baby. Also, as your baby grows, they will love seeing themselves as a teeny tiny baby with mommy and daddy.

If you don't want to have your photo taken, I would recommend at least holding/touching the baby or having him/her grasp onto your fingers in some shots. This not only illustrates the smallness of the newborn, but creates a very nice family image.

Having said that, it is always your choice who will be included in the photos.

Can we get some images of the baby and my other children?
ABSOLUTELY! OF COURSE!

This is not always the easiest task, but I will try my very hardest to make this special moment happen. I have been 100% successful, but do not guarantee this due to the uncertainty of both the children and newborn. All I have to say is that I will make you happy!!

Can we do the session late in the afternoon?

NEWBORNS:   My experience has led me to avoid late sessions and I now shoot almost always in the mornings. Babies are better in the mornings, our energy levels are better as well. Also for shots where I can use available window light, afternoons do not work very well and your pictures might be compromised. As far as scheduling dad's being home, I do not usually do my newborns on weekends so hopefully we can arrange appropriately. I do my best to accomodate, but I sometimes don't have that luxury as I book very far in advance.

FAMILY/CHILD: I would suggest outdoor sessions be either done early morning or late afternoon due to the best OUTDOOR lighting.

What should we wear? What should the baby wear?

Once your session is reserved and your deposit is paid for, I will send information to help you to prepare for your newborn session. It will include clothing suggestions and links where you can find the latest and cutest baby products so that your session will be unique to you. Once your session is scheduled if you have questions about certain clothing or outfits, I would be happy to answer them for you.

On the day of the session is there anything that I should do?

You play THE MOST IMPORTANT ROLE in your babies session.

You will get a welcome e-mail with all of this information when you send your deposit and return your contract.
